The Day the Earth Stood Still & Rocketship X-M

Wow! It is wonderful what can be done with a Theremin.

It really is true that much narration and emotion can be expressed through sonic forms. In The Day the Earth Stood Still, the entire score is designed using only a Theremin. While sparse and reserved to the robot, there is something energetic about this sonic composition.

Rocketship X-M: While I am infuriated with how Osa Massen's character was built up as incredibly intellectual, but then at every moment she is coddled by the "all knowing man." And, really, a pistol and rifles on Mars? While goofy, this film actually serves as a critique of nuclear power and rocket exploration in space. The score, beautiful and evocative, presents a telling narration of exploration and passion.
